Earlier historic examples of embroidery include chain stitch, blanket stitch, satin stitch, and cross stitch which remain the remain the fundamental techniques of hand embroidery. Embroidery today is in a wide variety of tread colors and is seen on caps, hats, coats, blankets, dress shirts, denim, stockings, and golf shirts. Embroidery years ago was considered very expensive due to the time consuming methods used to carry out this process. In recent years, embroidery has become more affordable due to the process of digitizing and automation. The modern cost effective ways of embroidery translates to savings for the consumer making it a more affordable option.

The development process begins with a graphic design that is converted into a digital format that the embroidery machine can recognize. These set of operations are known as digitizing which is a very time consuming part of the whole process. Once the file is digitized, it goes into the embroidery program on the computer that controls the embroidery machine. Once the embroidery machine and materials are set up, the computer sends the instructions to the embroidery machine and the design is sewn onto the product.
